The conventional method for waterproofing involves ‘membranes’. This would mean the needs to apply one or more layers of membrane such as bitumen, silicate, PVC, EPDM and other material. These will eventually act as a barrier between the water and the building structure. This will help to prevent the passage of the water. The first type is called “Tanking” or bonding a substance or membrane to the outside of your basement that will prevent water ingress into your basement walls. This method is predominantly used during the initial construction phase of your home.
Other types include the Cavity Drainage System and Exterior Foundation Drain. According to some experts, using the Tanking method as well as the Exterior Foundation Drain is the best method to overcome problem such as wet basements and others due to water leakage.
