In the construction work, one of the most important parts includes the waterproofing. Since the concrete itself is not waterproof, those who are involved in construction must learn about waterproofing.
The conventional method for waterproofing involves ‘membranes’. This would mean the needs to apply one or more layers of membrane such as bitumen, silicate, PVC, EPDM and other material. These will eventually act as a barrier between the water and the building structure. This will help to prevent the passage of the water. Any problems with the application or adherence to the substrate can lead to leakage and thus, it is important that the workers are skilful in waterproofing.
The basement waterproofing is even more important as there are different materials as the basement foundation. There are different basement waterproofing systems that are made to suit the different materials used such as brick, block, concrete and even wood as well. Thus, it is important for you to pick and choose the right basement waterproofing system.
The first type is called “Tanking” or bonding a substance or membrane to the outside of your basement that will prevent water ingress into your basement walls. This method is predominantly used during the initial construction phase of your home.
Other types include the Cavity Drainage System and Exterior Foundation Drain. According to some experts, using the Tanking method as well as the Exterior Foundation Drain is the best method to overcome problem such as wet basements and others due to water leakage. You could easily find the solutions to the waterproofing problems you are facing from the internet these days.
